Which Apple Watch Will Last The Longest In A Battery Test?
With the latest release of the Apple Watch Series 7, Apple has now released a total of nine watches since 2015.
One of the most discussed thing about these smartwatches has always been battery life. Since they’re running the relatively powerful Watch OS, Apple hasn’t been able to make them last as long as most competitor’s watches.

In this post, I am going to share my test results in terms of how long you should expect the battery in the current watches to last.
Apple isn’t selling most of the models anymore, but the three available are Series 3, SE, Series 7.
In my tests, I put on the watch in the morning at around 7am, and used it like a regular user. With notifications, workouts, media controls, podcasts, maps directions, weather, calendar, and Apple Pay being the features mainly used throughout the day.
I did not have the screen set to always-on on the compatible watches.
Let’s see what Apple says versus my test results.
Apple Watch Battery Life Comparison
The Results & Thoughts
As you can tell from the table, Apple advertises that all of its watches can last up to 18 hours. Well, that’s very specific and I understand why.
Everybody uses their watch in different ways, and that is what’s going to decide how long it will last.
For example, I have noticed that the battery drains faster when I am doing a workout. Especially if I am out and about using not only the heart-rate monitor but the GPS.
I didn’t notice it draining much power when I was using it to listen to downloaded Spotify lists with my AirPods Pro.
Even with the always-on screen with the Series 7, it lasts more than a full day for me.
To conclude, the Apple Watch with the best battery life is the latest Series 7. Even with its bigger screen and newer features, it holds up and wins against the other models.
I also want to mention some other features that I really like with the Series 7. The blood oxygen app and the ECG app.
As an avid hiker, I also like the always-on altimeter on the SE and Series 7. The Series 3 can tell the altitude but only when using the compass app.
Last but not least the Series 7 has faster charging. It charges up to 33% faster than the Series 6.
38/40/41 VS 40/41/45?
The screens on the Apple Watches are getting larger and larger, but the overall size of the watches hasn’t changed much.
It’s just that the display is getting closer and closer to the edge, and the bezels are shrinking.
But how do you choose between the two sizes? Well, I have been using the larger models because I figured I want the biggest size, but honestly next time I am going to go with the smaller model.
The best way to find the size for you is to visit a store that carries them. But if you can’t do that, I suggest grabbing a measurement tape and drawing/measuring it out on paper or your arm.
Here are the different sizes available right now:
Series 3
38mm – 38.6mm by 33.3mm
42mm – 42.5mm by 36.4mm
(Series) SE
40mm – 40mm by 34mm
44mm – 44mm by 38mm
Series 7
41mm – 41mm by 35mm
45mm – 45mm by 38mm
